I have yet to find a comparable 2.1 system. For everyone that had a Yamaha YST set, these are not even close.
At louder volumes, they clip, distort and just sound goofy. they sound ok.
First off, I sorely miss the Yamaha YST -MS50's with a 60watt sub. For everyone that likes them, great.
They sound perfectly fine at mid volume, so i give them 3 stars, but they cannot get loud enough for me personally without distortion and clipping. I could have a party with the ipod running those and sound like I had a massive stereo going (used them for a NYE party one year with 30 people) It's a shame Yamaha doesn't make that set anymore.
I bought the Klipsch based on the name and reading some of these reviews.
I mean almost untouchable most of the time, thus it's like having a small heater on all the time you are using the computer. Suppose you go out all day, if you don't want that little "heater" working all the time, you have to either go below your desk at ground level and turn them off, or unplug the speakers everytime.
Even the cheap Creative speakers have a small power button on one of the satellites for easy on/offI will not purchase Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 again for such poor design characteristic, or any Klipsch Pro Media product. Or else they will be hot all the time, even when not producing sound, plus that heat being produced has to cost someone money, and since nobody pays my bill for me, that money will be mine, plus heat is such that I am sure they pose a fire hazzard at some point, and I am sure all that heat all the time gives them a very short life span.
The Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers sound a little better than average, not much better than a pair of very cheap creative speakers I had for years prior. This is just dumb design, they just put some speakers in a box and didn't think of the customer.
Lastly they are made in China and like most everything else made in china, you can tell right away by looking at them they are made in china for their less than stellar quality. The two major problems that I see is are that the ground speaker/amplifier on these Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 gets VERY HOT.
then the electric bill, AND THEN TO THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO TURN THEM OFF WHEN NOT IN USE.Which takes me to problem # 2And problem number two is that the only power switch is on the actual woofer, which means that if you want to turn off the system (Aka: Room Heater) when not in use to keep your ELECTRIC BILL DOWN AND ROOM AT NORMAL TEMPERATURE, you will have to kneel below your desk and look for a tiny switch on the REAR of the speeaker to turn them off everytime you don't want to use them, then do it again when you want to use them again.
I get a lot of distortion whenever wires move near the speakers, etc. The sound is was pretty good, but the connection apparatus is lousy.
I love Klipsch. No receiver necessary and sounds just great. I actually use this system with my 40" LCD, in my living room. It's much better because it's compact and simple.
The classroom is moderately sized (about 25 students) and the speakers fill the room nicely with plenty of headroom and nice bass extension. I bought these for a classroom application (used in conjunction with a PC and a ceiling-mounted projector) and found that the Klipsch speakers perform beautifully.
